Dr. Dorothy Njiraine is the Chairperson of the Department of Library and Information Science since the inauguration of the Department in September 2013. She is in-charge of the administration and management of academic affairs in the Department.

Bio

Dr. Dorothy Njiraine is the Chairperson and Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Nairobi, Kenya. She holds a Doctor of Library and Information Science (University of Zululand, South Africa-2011), MSc. in Information Science (Makerere University, Uganda-2005), MBA (Moi University, Kenya-2012), PGD in Librarianship (Makerere University, Uganda- 1998) and B.A. Hons (University of Nairobi, Kenya- 1989).

 

Her areas of teaching and research include, but are not limited to, Information sciences; Knowledge management; Knowledge management systems; Indigenous knowledge; Indigenous knowledge systems; user education, ICTs in LIS education and training, and Information Searching and Retrieval (ISR); E-learning platforms; Information management; ICT4D; Agricultural information and communication management; Digital libraries and information systems; Management information systems; Information literacy and communication skills (Library skills, Open access and plagiarism); Computer applications; Information systems analysis and design; Information ethics; Information security; Informetrics; Social media and applications; Strategic management; Human resource management; Project planning and management; Disability empowerment- related issues; Research methods; Qualitative and quantitative methods; Supervision; Research and Consultancy in information field; Emerging trends in information science discipline. She has authored 23 articles in peer review journals, 2 books; and a book chapter; presented papers in international, regional and local academic conferences; delivered keynote addresses in international academic conferences; Supervised 1 PhD and 25 Master’s candidates; Served as external examiner for 4 universities; Serves as an editorial board member of South African Journal of Libraries and Information Science (SAJLIS) and a reviewer for Emerald database and African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development (AJFAND).
